Our Mission Statement

We are FIRST Robotics Team 4243 representing several schools within the Charleston County School District in South Carolina. With the assistance and guidance of our mentors, we are here to compete in the challenges of The FIRST Robotics Competition. By thinking outside of the box and pushing the limits of our problem solving abilities, we are here to design and build robots. Being comprised of students, it is also our primary function to learn and develop our abilities in programming, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Our team name is Excelsior! which we chose by its definition of "Ever Upward". We may not always make it far in the competition. We may not always have time to develop all of our ideas. However, we are constantly improving our skills and our teamwork. This is why we are proud to be Excelsior!

ABOUT

History

R. B. Stall High School founded FIRST Robotics Competition Team 4243 in the fall of 2011 sponsored by Boeing South Carolina. Initially known as the Star Warriors, the team began with 7 students, 2 teachers, and 4 Boeing employees mentoring at the school. Under the leadership of Project Lead The Way Teacher Kimberly Pickett, team participation rapidly grew to 15 students and 9 mentors in 2013 through 2017.  Boeing facilitated this growth by standing up a FIRST Robotics Lab and hosting the mentoring activities in the Boeing 787 Final Assembly Building.  Since the fall of 2012, the team also benefited from the leading mentor-ship of SPAWAR Scientist Richard Daehler-Wilking, PhD. In the summer of 2017, Stall High School started a Vex Robotics team and the FRC Team 4243 became open to all Charleston County High School students. Today, Team 4243: Excelsior! consists of 18 students representing Academic Magnet High School, School of the Arts, and James Island Charter, Allegro, School of Math & Science and West Ashley High supported with 10 Mentors. The Boeing sponsored team is supported by CCSD Career & Technology Education with Petra Neumayer as coach.
